Tostado & Carlitos

Tostado

Four words at the café table, un tostado y un cortado, and the press answers: crustless pan de miga striped gold around ham and machine-cut cheese, quartered into triangles timed to the coffee.

Carlitos

A plain ham-and-cheese tostado with one heretical addition: ketchup. A Rosario bar owner improvised the Carlito in 1953, and in 2014 the city council voted it into protected cultural heritage.
